What you are buying, plainly

The licence

Buying Local Translate gives you a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to install and use the application on one Mac (Local Translate) or up to three Macs (Local Translate Gold) that you own or control, at a time. You use it by signing in with your BIM account; signing in past that number releases the Mac signed in longest ago. The licence does not expire. You are buying a right to use the software, not ownership of the software itself.

Price and payment

Local Translate is $39.99 USD and Local Translate Gold $59.99 USD, excluding VAT, as a single payment (launch prices; the regular prices are $59.99 and $89.99 USD). Each licence includes one year of remote access, so you can reach your own translation server from anywhere. Prices are shown before any tax that applies where you live; the tax, if any, is calculated and shown at checkout before you pay. The price you paid and the date you paid it are recorded against your account, so a change in list price does not change what you already bought.

Refunds

Fourteen days, as set out in the refund policy, which forms part of these terms.

Offline operation

The application checks its licence when it has a connection and then holds a signed token that keeps it working offline for 30 days without contacting anything. This is deliberate: a network failure on our side or yours must never stop a valid licence holder from working. If the token expires the application asks to check the licence once, and then continues.

What you may not do

• Resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the application or access to your account.
• Use one licence on more than one Mac at the same time.
• Remove or work around the licensing mechanism.
• Use the application to break the law where you are.

Translation quality

Machine translation is machine translation. It is good enough to read a contract, a statement or a page of documentation and understand it. It is not a certified translation and it is not legal advice. Do not file a machine translation with a court or an immigration authority and expect it to be accepted. Where accuracy has legal consequences, have a human translator check it.

Availability and support

The application runs on your machine, so its availability is your machine's. The account server exists only to check purchases. We aim to keep it up, and the application keeps working offline for 30 days between checks, so our downtime is not your downtime.

Liability

We provide the application as it is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Ending the licence

You may stop using the application at any time. We may end the licence if it is being resold, shared far beyond the device allowance, or used to commit a crime, and we will refund the unused part of a recent purchase if we do.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the British Virgin Islands. This does not remove any consumer right you have under the law where you live.
